The Old Man and the Sea is truly an intriguing book. Though the book seems simple and repetitive, the simplicity and repetitions of certain phrases made me think even more deeply. Though most of the book seems very straight forward, there several phrases and comments that caused me to have to stop reading and think over what it possibly meant.
I don;t remember the last time that i have been so clearly taken by a book. Even though the book is short, it has a peculiar taste to its form of writing which pulls the reader in deeper and deeper into its pages.
This written work truly reflects the originality and ingenuity of Ernest Hemingway, and why his writing form had intrigued many readers. I have come to admire Hemingway's form of writing greatly.
The fact that I could be so taken by such few pages and simple words is mind boggling to me and I do not completely understand why I enjoyed this book so much. When I stopped reading the book, it seemed like I had been traveling with the old man, questioning him, and observing the things that he was. It is truly a magical feeling.
But one thing I am afraid of is that some readers may not truly taste the book for what it is by just quickly skimming through its pages. When reading this book, I encourage the reader to attempt to dig more deeply into the book to discover the charisma of Hemingway's work.

Article Response: Ernest Hemingway
It was very interesting to read about the life of Ernest Hemingway. I think it really was a blessing for him to have had the childhood he had within nature for it is not something that everyone can experience these days. It is surprising to me how much Hemingway learned at his time starting from music to track field manager. One thing that surprised me in a slightly negative way was that Hemingway had married several times because he fell in love with another woman other than his current wife and committed suicide later on in his life. The first article that talked about Hemingway's life (The Life of Ernest Hemingway) said that "Hemingway was raised with the conservative Midwestern values of strong religion, hard work, physical fitness and self determination; if one adhered to these parameters, he was taught, he would be ensured of success in whatever field he chose." Though he flourished during his youth, the discipline he was taught did not help him much towards the end of his life.The Iceberg theory is something I had never thought about before. Personal View on Wuthering Heights
When I first started reading Wuthering Heights, I had no idea what was going on, and the story itself seemed very dark. Once I got a little further through the book, I started to become more attached to the story line and wondered about the outcome of the characters. I enjoyed the turn of events and how the author described each scene and the way she chose to tell the overall story. It shows the inner conflicts of the human mind and the importance of choices. The variety and the complexity of the characters intrigued me.This novel is tragic yet beautifully written.

Briefly About Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights is named after the key location in which the story takes place, which is a huge old fortress-like house upon a hill. There are two narrators; one is a maid that served the households that the story is about, and the other is a man who meets the owner of Wuthering Heights and becomes engrossed in their history which he finds out from the maid.

Emily Bronte was born on the 30th of July 1818 in Thorton, West Riding Yorkshire, Northern England. She was born as the fifth child of six children yet the oldest two of the six children died during childhood. In 1820, Emily Bronte's family moved eight miles away from their home to Hawthorth, where the children developed their literary talents.
In a year their mother dies from cancer when Emily was three years old, and her three oldest sisters were sent to a boarding school where they encountered abuse later described in the book Jane Eyre written by one of Emily's sisters, Charlotte. When Emily reached the age of six, she joined her sisters in the school. Soon afterwards, a typhoid epidemic swept through the school and two of her sisters caught it, and later on, after they were removed from the school, both died.
The rest of the children including Emily were further educated by their father who was an Anglican clergyman, and therefore was very strict with them. The children began to write fiction inspired by a variety of authors. Emily later on became a teacher at Law Hill School in Halifax when she was twenty years old. But under the stress from her 17 hour long work her health broke and she returned home doing most of the house work.
Though Emily had a very shy nature yet also had a mixture of great courage and dedication. She did not love many people, but those that she did, she maintained loyal and sacrificial tenderness towards them, and though she was understanding towards other people's failures, she did not accept failure for herself, never deviating from what she considered was her duty.
On of Emily's first works was about a fictional world called Gondal, and she wrote many poems and prose about it. She wrote many other poems and many of them were published, yet did not draw much attention from the public. Again, she published Wuthering Heights with her pen name, Ellis Bell, in 1847 and it became her most distinguished work.

The Sunday school teachers, and other members of our church, including me, prepared for the event during that week, and the week before, meeting up at church and staying there the whole day. I was given the task to prepare songs and choreographed dances with those songs. I found many fun songs from youtube, and just like I expected, the children loved them.

The Bible Camp Theme was "Q.T. Prince and Q.T. Princess." Kinda cheesy, but very important stuff ;)
It was a time where I realized how precious each soul is worth, no matter how small or big, young and old. Each child was as precious as a jewel. I cannot even start to fathom how much more special and valuable each one of these souls are in God's eyes, but I wish to learn to see people with God's eyes so that my attitude towards each one is of love.

His Hand
I dream.
I hope.
But I am impatient, self-seeking, undisciplined, and weak.
Though I wish my wishes,
what are those dreams and hopes if what I am inside covers their shine?
I become discouraged and beat myself down for not being able to change and fight against my nature. My sin.
And so, I hold onto His hand. His pierced hand. The only hand that can lift me up from my grave. It is He who gives me the strength to try again and again, despite my failures.
He guides me through the maze of choices, and endlessly waits and understands my weaknesses.
He has his hands stretched out to me.
I reach out and hold on.

Wuthering HeightsI don't know what to expect from this novel either. All I know is that the novel is about a man who shelters at a place called Wuthering Heights where he discovers many events that took place there many years before.

I recently found out that the novel The Invisible Man that I am reading is by the wrong author... and so, I am going to move on to reading Wuthering Heights. I think I will visit school some time to borrow either the Kite Runner or Pride and Prejudice.

Just recently, I went to Promenada to buy books from a book shop.Of the books that I bought, I purchased The Invisible Man. I had first been introduced to the book through Emma (a fellow classmate), who had been reading it during our silent reading time.Once I had been given the summer AP homework, I noticed that The Invisible Man was one of the options to choose from for the summer reading assignment. I had been curious about the book, so I thought it was a opportunity to get to read it.
The Invisible Man was written by H. G. Wells, born in Bromley, England 1866. His first novel, The Time Machine was a great success and lead to his literary popularity. Many of his novels feature social and scientific factors, and is known to be an author, historian, and a distinguished social and political idealist. Many of his predictions of the future came true. So much that he is sometimes called "the Father of Futurism." But he is best known as "the Father of Science Fiction" (Herbert George Wells).

I did not know what to expect from the book, except that there would
probably be an unusual character called the Invisible Man. The brief summary of
the novel on the back of the book gave me the slight impression that there
would be some violent and mysterious scenes throughout the novel, but other
than that, I had no perception of how the story would proceed. I hoped at the
time that I would be able to read through the novel without having to encounter
graphic scenes that may be a challenge for me to read. (I am writing in past
tense because I have already read past the middle of the book. I will promptly
post my views and opinions on the book so far in the following posts.)

Yeah... after reading the posts that my fellow classmates posted, I could help but be surprised.
I have no idea as to how blogging works or how to use it. In other words, a total newbie.
Well, I gotta start learning.
I really liked how Hannah's post looked with many pictures. It emphasized what she had written. I also noticed that Andrew had used hyperlinks. In attempt to follow their steps and methods, I used hyperlinks and pictures. Yeah!

I have loved to do many things since I was little. I loved to climb trees, catch butterflies, roll on the grass, draw, eat, play an instrument,.. and I could go on. So with all those joys also came a dilemma. It is hard for me to stick to one thing and concentrate on it. When I work on something, I think of other things that I could do.
This also became an issue because I had to start thinking about what to study in college. But after a while, I realized, it would be very hard for me to decide a specific subject to study. So I turned my focus away from the subject, to what kind of person I want to be. Once I found who I wanted to be, I realized that it helped me in deciding what to do.
